Abergele Garden Society

Cymdeithas Arddio Abergele

After the success of our first meeting after lockdown in May, we are pleased to let you know that our next meeting will take place on Monday 13th June 2022 at 7.30pm (doors will be open from 7pm) .

We will welcome Maureen Sawyers who will give a talk entitled “Scents of Purpose”.

Maureen is a gardener, designer and artist who, along with her partner Duncan Watmough, has created a unique south facing town garden at Southlands, Stretford near Manchester.

Southlands has been developed on a long, narrow site which once formed part of the orchard on the estate owned by the aristocratic de Trafford family, who had held most of the lands in the borough of Trafford since medieval times. When the garden was purchased in 1990 only one pear tree from this orchard remained in it.   It has taken twenty years of hard work and dedication to achieve the current garden which contains a Courtyard, Mediterranean garden, a Shade garden linked to the Kitchen Garden by a Gravel walk, Pond Garden and Woodland garden.  The garden is open as part of the National Garden Scheme on Saturday 17th July 2022 and further details of the garden, its opening times and celebrations planned for this year's 20th anniversary, can be found at www.southlands12.com

At Abergele Garden Society ,everyone is welcome to come along to our talks - existing Society members as well as anyone who just wants to find out a bit more about gardening and gardens, and meet some like-minded, friendly people.

Abergele Garden Society meets the second Monday of every month (except December and January) in Mynydd Seion Chapel Rooms, Llanfair Road, Abergele, LL22 7AW. Annual membership is £10 single, £15 for a couple, payable in April. We are affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society which bestows a number of benefits on our members.   If you have any questions about our meetings or the Society in general, contact Wendy Price, secretary, via the website link (www.abergele gardensociety.org.uk) where we also list our speakers’ programme on our Calendar of Events page.

The Abergele Garden Society would like to thank Slaters of Colwyn Bay and Prys Jones & Booth for all their help and support throughout the years.
